Our baby rattles are completely safe for children and are 100% non-toxic. As parents, we know one of the first things a baby will do when they get something in their hand is to put it straight in his or her mouth. Because of this, we searched for and experimented with different types of finishes until we finally found the one, Clapham's Salad Bowl Finish. It is clear, flavorless and of course non-toxic/edible (though I don't recommend spreading it on toast!). It is a simple mixture of three things: beeswax, carnuba wax and mineral oil to thin the waxes out. It goes on smooth and absorbs into the pores of the wood providing a safe barrier which resists moisture (read drool), enhances the natural beauty of the woods and will help keep the colors in the woods from fading. We use copper coated bbs for the noise maker inside. We chose this over an organic material to eliminate the risk of rot occurring inside the rattle if moisture were to make its way into the rattle chamber.
Our rattles measure roughly 5.5 inches in length, 2 inches in width and .75 inches thick. Each rattle is made by hand so actual dimensions may vary slightly. We currently have three wood types available for retail.
Canarywood- A canary yellow wood with stripes of browns, black, oranges and reds.
Leopardwood- A brown wood with light brown/tan spots.
Satine- A deep red wood with stripes of alternating grain patterns creating a shimmering effect as light hits it from different angles.
(When ordering online, the rattle you receive will not be the rattle pictured and will appear slightly different.)
